South Bend Silver Hawks News Release

South Bend, IN - The South Bend Silver Hawks scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning Sunday afternoon at Coveleski Stadium, but the rally was all for naught in a11-inning 11-7 loss to the Bowling Green Hot Rods. The Silver Hawks remain 4.5 games out of a playoff spot with 15 remaining in the Midwest League's regular season.

Trailing 7-3 entering their final at-bat, the Silver Hawks rallied for four runs against Alex Koronis (WP, 7-4). With the bases loaded and one out, David Nick singled to make it 7-4. Bobby Borchering followed with a two-run single to make it 7-6, and Ramon Castillo's sacrifice fly tied the game at 7-7. However, after a walk put runners on first and second, Koronis finally got Victor Estevez to foul out to the catcher and force extras.

After a scoreless tenth, the Hot Rods broke through with four runs on five hits against Randy Rodriguez (LP, 0-4) in the top of the 11th. Ryan Wiegand snapped a 0-for-10 start to the series with a RBI single to break the tie, and Julio Cedeno, Dave Wendt, and Tomas Francisco added RBIs in the big inning that led to the Bowling Green victory.

The 11th was the second big inning for Bowling Green, after they had plated six runs in the top of the fifth against South Bend starter Mike Belfiore (ND). Cedeno had the big hit in that inning with a three run double and finished the game with three hits and four RBIs to lead the Hot Rods offensive attack.

South Bend was led on offense by Nick and Borchering who each finished with three hits and two RBIs. Castillo also had a two RBI game as the middle of the order did most of the damage for the home team.

Ender Inciarte ignited the ninth inning rally with a single to right, pushing his hitting streak to nine games and tying for the fifth longest streak by a South Bend player this season.

The middle relief work was exceptional for both teams. Aaron Dott (ND) threw 5.0 innings and allowed just one run for Bowling Green, while Rafael Quezada (ND) went 3.0 innings and allowed just an unearned run for the Silver Hawks.

Game three of the four game set takes place Monday evening at 6:30 PM Eastern Time on the final Pepsi and U93 Dollar Monday of the season. On the hill for South Bend will be RHP Andrew Wolcott (1-3, 6.06 ERA) while Bowling Green sends LHP Kyle Lobstein (8-6, 4.20 ERA) to the bump. Pregame coverage begins at 6:10 PM Eastern Time on 1620 ESPN Radio and online at www.silverhawks.com .
