Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, IL - The Kane County Cougars, in conjunction with the Oakland Athletics, have announced that pitcher Justin Marks has been promoted to Class-A Advanced Stockton, while pitcher Jonathan Joseph has been promoted to the Cougars from Short-A Vancouver. Today's roster move keeps the Cougars' roster at 25 active players as the team concludes a three-game series in eastern Iowa against the Quad Cities River Bandits this evening.

Despite a record of 3-12, Marks (3rd Rd, 2009) was one of the Cougars' top pitchers this past month, working at least six innings in four of his last five starts and averaging more than eight strikeouts per outing during that stretch. Overall, the lefty made 20 starts for the Cougars this season and fanned 119 batters in 109.2 innings of work.

Joseph (Non-drafted FA, 2006) is no stranger to the Cougars this year. The right hander was the Cougars' Opening Night pitcher on April 9, but was moved to the disabled list on April 13 with a back injury. Joseph was activated from the disabled list on April 30 and pitched in six more games before being sent to extended spring training on May 29. Joseph has been with Vancouver this summer, going 1-1 with a 2.68 ERA in eight starts for the Canadians.

Despite having the third-best second half record in the Western Division, the Cougars (18-14) technically hold the second half division lead, being that the two teams with better second half records both clinched first half playoff spots. Just four games separate the Cougars from the five remaining playoff-eligible teams in the division.
