Late Rally Dooms Dragons to Sweep

Dayton, Ohio-The Bowling Green Hot Rods scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning to break a 7-7 tie as they went on to defeat the Dayton Dragons 9-7 on Friday night at Fifth Third Field before a crowd of 8,791. The Hot Rods earned a sweep of the three-game series.

Bowling Green's game-winning rally in the ninth inning began when Dragons reliever Junior Martinez issued back-to-back walks to start the frame. After the Hot Rods pulled off a double steal to advance runners to second and third with no one out, Dustin Biell followed with an infield single up the middle that brought in the tie-breaking run, and Ty Morrison's bunt single brought in the second run to make it 9-7. The Dragons got the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth but came away scoreless to suffer the defeat.

Dayton came back from a 7-4 deficit to tie the game in the seventh inning. With two men aboard and one out, Cameron Satterwhite blasted a three-run home run to left field to even the score at 7-7. It was Satterwhite's eighth homer of the year and second in the last three nights.

Dayton led 3-0 after two innings, getting an RBI double from Henry Rodriguez in the first and a run-scoring triple from Alex Oliveras in the second. But Bowling Green took the lead with three runs in the fourth and one more in the fifth.

Dayton's Josh Garton hit a game-tying home run in the bottom of the fifth, his ninth homer of the season and first in the month of July, to make it 4-4. Bowling Green scratched across a single run in the sixth and then Morrison delivered a two-run single in the seventh for to give the Hot Rods a 7-4 lead.

Dayton finished with nine hits. Garton and Satterwhite each had two hits including their home runs.

The Dragons (8-24) play at West Michigan on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
