
TinCaps handle Silver Hawks, 7-4

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Daniel Meeley pounded out four hits while Danny Payne smacked three more as the TinCaps rolled the South Bend Silver Hawks, 7-4, Friday at Parkview Field.
Fort Wayne finished its longest homestand of the year with a 7-2 mark.
The Silver Hawks took the lead in the top of the first on a two-out, two-run bloop single to left by Ramon Castillo to make it 2-0.
The TinCaps rebounded in the bottom of the first as Nate Freiman lined an RBI single to center to plate Jeudy Valdez and cut the deficit to 2-1.
In the bottom of the second, Payne laced a two-run double to right-center to put the TinCaps ahead, 3-2. Fort Wayne kept the momentum in the fifth when Jason Hagerty cracked an RBI single to center to make it 4-2.
The TinCaps scored three more times in the sixth. Payne singled home Meeley, Valdez lifted a sacrifice fly to chase Jonathan Galvez home, then Payne scored on a wild pitch to push the lead to 7-2.
South Bend plated an unearned run in the seventh, then put up another in the ninth on Ender Inciarte's infield single.
LHP Jose De Paula (6-3) was the winning pitcher, allowing two runs on three hits and a walk with five strikeouts in five innings. South Bend RHP Adam Worthington (3-3) lost his second straight start. LHP Nick Greenwood grabbed his first career save with four strong innings.
Fort Wayne improved to 19-14 in the half, 55-48 for the season. The Silver Hawks dropped to 12- 20 in the second half, 42-58 for the year.
The TinCaps open a seven-game road swing Saturday against the first-place Great Lakes Loons (Class-A Los Angeles Dodgers) at Dow Diamond at 7:05 p.m. Fort Wayne LHP Pedro Hernandez (3-3) takes the hill against Loons RHP Josh Wall (7-4).
