New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

Akron, OH - Manny Mayorson and Danny Perales delivered RBI singles in the top of the ninth inning, but the Fisher Cats late rally fell short in a 4-3 loss on Thursday night in Akron.

New Hampshire (36-25) trailed 4-1 entering the top of the ninth inning when Adam Loewen and David Cooper drew walks before Mayorson slapped a single to left to make it 4-2. Perales singled Cooper home to make it 4-3 before Steven Wright was summoned out of the Akron bullpen to get Darin Mastroianni to line out to center to end the game and earn his second save.

Akron (30-30), winners of ten straight games, completed a sweep of the Fisher Cats at Canal Park for the third consecutive season.

The Aeros opened the scoring against losing pitcher Kyle Drabek in the bottom of the first inning. Lonnie Chisenhall ripped the first pitch he saw into the right-field bleachers for his fourth homer and a 1-0 lead.

Akron added another run in the bottom of the fourth inning when Matt McBride led off with a single and Jerad Head (2-for-4) followed with a double. McBride scored on a ground out by Carlos Rivero (1-for-3, 2 RBI) to make it 2-0.

Drabek (7-5) left the game after five innings of work for New Hampshire. He allowed two runs on five hits. Drabek walked four and struck out one.

New Hampshire did not pick up its first hit of the game until there was one out in the top of the seventh inning. Shawn Bowman's drive to left field landed just out of the reach of John Drennen. It was the only hit allowed by Akron starter LHP Eric Berger. Berger (3-4) worked 6.2 shutout innings, walking three and striking out seven.

The Fisher Cats ended a 22.2 inning scoreless drought in the top of the eighth inning without the benefit of a hit. Mayorson walked, Perales was hit-by-pitch and Mastroianni reached on an error to load the bases. Reliever Connor Graham then walked Callix Crabbe to make it 2-1. Eric Thames then grounded into a double play to end the inning.

Adrian Martin worked two scoreless innings in relief for the Fisher Cats, striking out two.

Akron scored two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth inning against Vince Bongiovanni. Jerad Head bunted for a single and scored on a triple by Carlos Rivero. Rivero scored on a sacrifice fly by Drennen for a 4-1 lead.

The Fisher Cats continue the road trip at Jerry Uht park against the Erie SeaWolves on Friday night at 7:05pm. New Hampshire sends right-hander Ronald Uviedo (0-2, 3.62) to the mound to face Erie right-hander Brooks Brown (3-3, 4.81). Fisher Cats Pre-Game begins at 6:45pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Bob Lipman.

The Fisher Cats return to Merchantsauto.com Stadium to open a three-game series against the Akron Aeros, Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, on Tuesday, June 15, at 7:05pm. Prior to the game, which is a Kraft® Singles Tuesday Night Tickets night, there will be a parade to honor participants in the Community College System of New Hampshire Fisher Cats Reading Challenge.
