April 21, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1)
Portland Sea Dogs News Release

(Portland, Maine)- Over the last two days, fans around the Eastern League found out that the Binghamton Mets can certainly score some runs. On Tuesday night, the Mets scored 15 runs, and on Wednesday afternoon, the visitors followed that up with 10 runs defeating the Sea Dogs 10-4 before 4,898 fans at Hadlock Field.

For the second game in a row, the Mets needed very little time to open the scoring. Kirk Nieuwenheis led off the afternoon with a double to right field, and Nick Evans followed him with a double to center. Three batters later, D.J. Wabick stepped to the plate with two runners aboard, and drove a home run over the left-center field wall, giving the visitors a 4-0 lead.

Despite trailing by four, Sea Dogs' fans got some early excitement on the offensive side of the ball, as Ryan Kalish led off the bottom of the first inning with a homer to right. The long ball was Kalish's third of the season, tying him with Lars Anderson for the team lead.

Binghamton got that run back in their half of the third, when Zach Lutz cleared the Maine Monster, putting his team ahead, 5-1. In the following inning, Jonathan Malo helped add to the Mets' comfortable lead, smacking a two-run double to left. Malo ultimately made his way around the diamond on a single by Nick Evans.

Portland responded with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Nate Spears led off the frame with a single, moved to third on Ray Chang's double, and scored on a fly ball to center field by Lars Anderson. Chang and Anderson connected for another run two innings later, when Chang singled, and Anderson doubled to score Chang.

Mike Antonini (2-1) got the win for the Mets, going 5 2/3 innings, allowing three runs, six hits, and two walks, while striking out four. Kyle Weiland (0-2) suffered the loss for the Sea Dogs, allowing eight runs, six hits, and three walks, while striking out five, in four innings of work.

The Sea Dogs will begin a seven-game road trip in Trenton on Thursday night at 7:05. Eammon Portice (2-0, 2.80) will make the start for Portland, while the Thunder counter with Lance Pendleton (1-2, 6.23).
