Sea Dogs, Thunder Split Doubleheader

Portland Sea Dogs News Release
In game one, the Thunder needed just two batters to take the lead. Austin Krum led off the first inning with a double to left field, and David Adams followed that up with an RBI double to left-center.
Trenton added to the lead in the top of the fourth on one of the craziest plays of the season. Luis Nunez hit a line drive to right field, which was nearly caught by Ryan Kalish. Kalish threw to second base, and appeared to get Kevin Smith out. Jose Iglesias relayed the throw to third base, with Ray Chang putting the tag on Reid Gorecki. However, the ruling on the play had Iglesias missing second base, allowing Brandon Laird to touch the plate with the Thunder's second run of the day.
The visitors added one more run in the fifth inning to take a 3-0 lead. Portland did get one run in the bottom of the seventh inning, as Lars Anderson hit a long home run to right field off of Trenton closer Grant Duff.
DJ Mitchell (1-1) was splendid on the mound for the Thunder, allowing just one hit and three walks in five shutout innings for the win. Stephen Fife (0-1) suffered the loss for the Sea Dogs, going four innings, allowing three hits, one run, and three walks, while striking out four. Grant Duff earned his third save of the season, allowing one run in the seventh inning.
Tommy Hottovy proved to be one of the bright spots out of the Portland bullpen, throwing two scoreless innings in his second straight scoreless appearance.
In game two, the Sea Dogs turned the tables on Trenton, scoring just four batters into their half of the first inning. Ryan Kalish got the rally started with a walk, stole second, took third base on a passed ball, and scored when Luis Exposito doubled to left field. Four pitches later, Exposito completed his trip around the bases, as Lars Anderson gave Portland a 2-0 lead with a double to left-center.
Casey Kelly got the start for Portland, and went three scoreless innings. Boston's number two prospect allowed two hits, while striking out two in his second start in Double-A.
Kelly was relieved by Eammon Portice, who saw his first pitch fly out of the ballpark to left-center on a home run by Brandon Laird. However, Portice settled down from there, allowing three more baserunners in 2 2/3 innings. The native of Oakland Park, FL earned the win, improving to 2-0 on the season.
Lance Pendleton got saddled with the loss for the Thunder, going four innings, allowing three hits, two runs, and one walk, while striking out six. Pendleton's record fell to 1-2.
Jason Rice picked up his second save of the season, twirling 1 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball to finish of the Portland win.
On Monday night, the Sea Dogs will begin a three-game series with the other New York affiliate - the Binghamton Mets. Felix Doubront (1-0, 2.00) will make his third start of the season for Portland. Binghamton will counter with Dylan Owen (1-0, 0.82).
