Red Claws Acquire Looby

PORTLAND, ME - The Maine Red Claws, presented by Quirk Chevrolet, today announced that they have acquired center Kurt Looby from the Albuquerque Thunderbirds at the trade deadline in exchange for Trey Gilder.

The 6-10, 230 lb. Looby has split the season between the Rio Grande Valley Vipers and Albuquerque. His second professional season, he has averaged 7.9 rebounds and 3.1 blocked shots in 37 games played while chipping in 5.8 points in 2009-10. Noted as a big-time shot blocker and strong defensive player, the Antiqua native has played basketball for just six years. After being discovered in Antigua, he was recruited to Tyler Junior College where he played for two years before transferring to Iowa. He finished his two-year career at Iowa ranked seventh all-time in blocked shots with 96. He currently ranks second in the NBA D-League in blocked shots with 114 (3.1 per game).

Looby will wear #00 with the Red Claws.

RED CLAWS AT THE MAINE MALL: On Saturday, March 6, the entire Red Claws team will be at the Maine Mall for a public autograph session. The event, sponsored by the Portland Press Herald, will take place from 3 PM - 5 PM at the center of the mall, between the Gap and Sports Authority.

RED CLAWS TO HOST BONE MARROW DRIVE: On Sunday, March 7, the Red Claws will host a bone marrow registry drive as they take on the Sioux Falls Skyforce at 5:00 PM. The team will join with the Desjardins family of Saco and DKMS (www.dkmsamericas.org) for a "Hugs from Hayley" bone marrow drive. Doors for the 5 PM game will open early, at 3:30 PM, for all fans who wish to add their name to the National Bone Marrow Registry. Registration consists of a simple, painless cheek swab.
