P-Bruins Defeat Wolf Pack 5-3

Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins defeated the Hartford Wolf Pack, 5-3 Friday evening at the Dunkin Donuts Center. The P-Bruins got goals from Trent Whitfield, Kirk MacDonald, Brad Marchand and two goals from Mikko Lehtonen. The P-Bruins next home game is Sunday, October 11 at 4:05 p.m against the Wolf Pack.

The Wolf Pack took a 1-0 lead at the 11:48 mark of the opening period, while on the power play. Evgeny Grachev netted his first goal of the season, with Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau and Paul Crowder recording the assists. Providence tied the game at one at the 14:04 mark, while on the power play. Lehtonen had the puck along the boards and left it for Jamie Arniel. He found Whitfield backdoor, who chipped the puck into the net for his second goal of the season. The P-Bruins took their first lead of the game at the 18:10 mark. Andy Wozniewski passed the puck to Jeff LoVecchio in the neutral zone. He found Lehtonen skating towards the net as Lehtonen tallied his first goal of the season. Providence went into the first intermission leading 2-1.

Providence took a 3-1 advantage at the 8:44 mark of the second period. Andrew Bodnarchuk cleared the puck from in front of the P-Bruins net and it was picked up by Guillaume Lefebvre. He skated it into the zone before passing it off to MacDonald. He skated towards the goal and shot the puck into the net for his first goal of the season. The P-Bruins grabbed a 4-1 advantage at the 10:44 mark, while on the power play. Whitfield held the puck in the corner and fed it to Wozniewski in front of the net. He took a shot and Lehtonen scored off the rebound, his second goal of the game and season. Providence led 4-1 after two periods.

The Wolf Pack made it 4-2 at the 3:17 mark of the third period, while on the power play. Corey Locke netted his third goal of the season, with Patrick Rissmiller and Parenteau getting the assists. Providence once again made it a three goal advantage with their third power play goal of the game at the 13:51 mark. Alain Goulet held the puck in at the right point and sent it along the boards to Vladimir Sobotka. He found Marchand in the slot who scored his second goal of the season. Hartford added a goal at the 19:50 mark. Dale Weise scored his first goal of the season, while Crowder and Jordan Owens grabbed the assists. Providence went on to the 5-3 victory.

Dany Sabourin stopped 34 of 37 shots for the P-Bruins, while Chad Johnson made 28 saves for the Wolf Pack. The P-Bruins were 3-for-5 on the power play and 3-for-5 on the penalty kill.

Providence hits the road for the first time this season against the Portland Pirates at the Cumberland County Civic Center Saturday at 7:00 p.m. Before returning to The Dunk on Sunday to wrap up the weekend with a Family Game at 4:05 p.m. against the Wolf Pack.
