
Pirates Bitten by River Rats

ALBANY, NY - Zach Boychuk collected a goal and two assists to lead the Albany River Rats to a 5-2 win over the Portland Pirates in an American Hockey League game played tonight in front of 2, 162 at the Times Union Center.
Brandon Sutter, Drayson Bowman, Jerome Samson and Chris Terry also scored for Albany, who evened their early season record at 1-1-0-0.
Nathan Gerbe paced the Pirates with a goal and an assist. Cody McCormick struck for the other Pirates.
Portland dropped to 0-2-0-0 to start the season.
The two teams were tied at one after one. The River Rats carried a 3-1 advantage into the third and built a 5-1 advantage before Gerbe struck to complete the scoring.
Albany out shot the Pirates 34-26 in the game as Jhonas Enroth took the loss for Portland.
The three stars of the game were all from the River Rats. Boychuk was the first, Jerome Samson the second and Brandon Sutter the third.
The Pirates return home for the 2009-2010 home opener tomorrow (Saturday) when the Providence Bruins visit the Cumberland County Civic Center for a 7 p.m. start.
