Providence, RI, October 9, 2009 - Mikko Lehtonen scored two goals and added an assist, and Trent Whitfield added a goal and an assist, to lead the Providence Bruins to a 5-3 win over the Hartford Wolf Pack Friday night at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Providence.

The loss dropped the Wolf Pack to 0-2 on the season, headed into Saturday night's home-ice opener at the XL Center against the Springfield Falcons (7:00).

Evgeny Grachev, Corey Locke and Dale Weise scored the Wolf Pack goals in the game, and P.A. Parenteau and Paul Crowder had two assists apiece. Also scoring for the Bruins were Kirk MacDonald and Brad Marchand, and Andy Wozniewski had two assists. Providence was 3/5 on the power play in the contest.

The Wolf Pack grabbed their first lead of the season at 11:48 of the first period on Grachev's first pro goal, a power-play tally. Stationed at the left side of the slot, Grachev, just back with Hartford after his first career NHL recall to the New York Rangers, converted a pass out of the left corner from Parenteau.

Providence tied it on a power play of their own 2:26 later, as Whitfield snapped in a rebound from the right side of the crease, after Wolf Pack goaltender Chad Johnson had stopped Jamie Arniel's shot. Lehtonen then gave the Bruins a 2-1 lead on a strong solo rush at 18:10. Lehtonen jammed the puck just inside the goal post to Johnson's left, just before Johnson was able to put his glove on it.

The Bruins got two more in the second period, in a span of 2:00. MacDonald fired a low shot off left wing past Johnson's catching glove at 8:44 for a 3-1 lead, and Lehtonen scored his second of the game on a power play at 10:44 to make it 4-1.

The Wolf Pack cut it to 4-2 at 3:17 of the third period, on their second power-play goal of the game. Patrick Rissmiller played the puck up the slot, and Locke batted it past Providence netminder Dany Sabourin from Sabourin's left. It was Locke's third goal in two games for the Pack

The Bruins got that one back on their third man-advantage goal of the game at 13:51, with Marchand scoring his third goal of the season. Marchand beat Matt Zaba, who replaced Johnson at the start of the period, with a shot under the crossbar.

Dale Weise completed the scoring for the Wolf Pack with 10 seconds left, converting a Crowder feed in front.

The Wolf Pack outshot the Bruins 37-33 in the game, but Sabourin made 34 saves to get the win. Johnson took the loss in his first pro appearance, with four goals-against on 25 shots, and Zaba allowed one goal on eight shots.
