Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, SC - The Drive's lack of offense Thursday night could easily be the cause of a late bus trip back home from Kentucky. After arriving back in Greenville at 6:30 this morning, the Drive (32-27) mustered just one run in their series opener with the Asheville Tourists (24-36), falling 5-1.
The Tourists drew first blood in the top of the third as Scott Robinson belted 1-1 offering from Caleb Clay (2-3) over the Green Monster. The Drive would quickly answer in the home half as Ryan Dent singled, stole second, advanced to third on David Marks' groundout, and scored on Zach Gentile's infield single.
However, that would be Greenville's only run as the trio of Ethan Hollingsworth (4-4), Stephen Dodson, and Kurt Yacko held the Drive scoreless over the final six innings. Hollingsworth, Asheville's starter, lasted 6.0 innings in which he allowed three hits, two walks and struckout six.
Dodson added a pair of scoreless frames, surrendering two hits and a walk with three strikeouts before Yacko fanned two in the ninth to secure the victory.
Asheville broke the tie game in the top of the sixth on Jimmy Cesario's two-out, RBI-single before adding three insurance runs - all unearned - in the top of the ninth.
Making his second start since recovering from Tommy John Surgery last April, Nick Hagadone held the Tourists hitless over 2-2/3 scoreless innings. The Southpaw walked one and struck out four, while touching 98 miles per hour on the Fluor Field radar gun.
The Drive and Tourists conclude their brief two-game set on Friday with first pitch set for 7:05 PM. Right-hander Stolmy Pimentel (4-3, 2.05), who ranks third in the South Atlantic League in earned run average, will take the mound for Greenville as Asheville counters with right-hander Jonnathan Aristil (0-1, 4.09 ERA).
Friday will also feature a spectacular fireworks show following the game, with a Broadway musical theme. For more information on single-game tickets, ticket plans, group outings, luxury accommodations, visit www.GreenvilleDrive.com or call (864) 240-4500.
