ST. PAUL, MN (May 20, 2009) - The St. Paul Saints dropped another tough ballgame to their rival Lincoln Saltdogs, 10-7 at Midway Stadium on Wednesday afternoon in front of 3,495 .

The Saints second home game was a wild one. With winds blustering over 30 miles an hour, Midway Stadium lost power for over an hour. Play was uninterrupted and the Saltdogs were unphased by the unlit scoreboard. They wasted no time, as they came out swinging the bats early on against Saints starter Adam Cox.

In the top of the 1st inning, after Josh Burrus walked, two batters later Steve Alexander belted a two home run to left field to give the Saltdogs a 2-0 lead.

The wind was howling straight out of the park all day and the Saltdogs capitalized with five home runs. With two outs and the bases clear in the top of the 3rd inning, first baseman Phil Hawke hit his first of two round trippers on the day and first of the season putting the Saints in a 3-1 hole.

The Saints quickly answered in the bottom of the 3rd after Tony Mansolino singled, catcher Chris Herbert came to the plate. In his first professional at-bat, the 23- year-old from White Bear Lake lined a frozen rope over the left field wall for a two-run homer, tying the game at three.

Hawke delivered the biggest blow for the Saltdogs when he belted a three-run blast in the top of the 5th inning, his second home run off Saints starter Adam Cox. Steve Alexander followed that with a solo homer of his own, his second of the game and second of the season giving the Saltdogs a 7-3 lead. Cox allowed four homers on the day, one shy of tying a Saints single game record.

The Saints closed the gap with an RBI single by Craig Brazell in the fifth and an RBI single by Daron Roberts in the sixth which cut the deficit to 8-5.

In the seventh the Saints got to within a run courtesy of a Brazell homer to center, his fourth of the season and an RBI single from Jacob Butler, but the Saints would get no closer

With the score 10-7 in the ninth the Saints put the tying run aboard after a single by Brent Krause and back-to-back walks to Todd Self and Jacob Butler. Pinch hitter Andrew Schmiesing, however, struck out to end the game.

The Saints will close out their series against the Saltdogs on Thursday evening at 7:05 pm. Tanner Scheppers (0-0, 1.80) will take the mound for the Saints and will oppose right-hander Brian Campbell (0-0, 12.00) for the visiting Saltdogs. The game can be seen on the Saints Cable Network (check saintsbaseball.com for the channel in your area) and on saintsbaseball.com courtesy of iBN Sports. The game can be also heard on Relevant Radio 1330 beginning at 6:55 p.m. It is Magnet Schedule giveaway presented by Killebrew Root Beer. Midget Wrestling will follow the game.
