Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, in their 17th season in the American Hockey League, announced that they have released defenseman Jeff May and forward Aaron Clarke from their Professional Tryout Agreements. With the moves, the P-Bruins have 20 players on their roster, including 12 forwards, six defensemen and two goaltenders.

May, 21, joined Providence on December 30, 2008 from the Las Vegas Wranglers of the ECHL, where he registered 10 points (4g, 6a) in 23 games. The first-year blue-liner went scoreless in 11 games for the P-Bruins and he has gone scoreless in 14 AHL contests overall after beginning the season with the Norfolk Admirals. May made his professional debut for Norfolk on October 10, 2008 against the Hershey Bears before later earning his first pro point with a goal in the ECHL on November 3, 2008 at the Phoenix RoadRunners. May's best career game to date came on November 15, 2008 versus the Idaho Steelheads when he scored two goals and added two assists and a plus-three rating for top star honors.

Prior to turning pro, the 2009 ECHL National Conference All-Star spent parts of the last six seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Prince Albert Raiders and the Lethbridge Hurricanes. He tallied a junior-high 44 points in each of the 2006-07 and 2007-08 campaigns. His Lethbridge club advanced to the WHL Finals last season, falling to the Spokane Chiefs in four games. In his junior career, May tallied 143 points (19g, 124a) and 338 penalty minutes in 310 games, adding another 17 points (4g, 13a) in 44 playoff contests.

A native of Richmond, British Columbia, May was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings 151st overall in the fifth round of the 2005 National Hockey League Entry Draft.

Clarke, 24, signed his PTO with Providence on January 16, appearing in three games while tallying his first career AHL assist in a road win over the Hartford Wolf Pack. The second-year pro also has nine goals and a career-best 22 assists for 31 points in 27 games for the Wheeling Nailers, earning him a spot on the American Conference's 2009 ECHL All-Star team. Clarke received previous AHL experience with the Binghamton Senators, signing a PTO with the club on December 26, 2008. He appeared in four games, scoring his first career AHL goal in a 4-1 win over the Hershey Bears, before being released on January 13.

As a rookie for Wheeling last year, Clarke produced 19 goals and 36 points in 60 games. Prior to turning pro, the undrafted forward from Peterborough, Ontario, played four seasons of collegiate hockey, two for the Niagara University Purple Eagles and two for the Robert Morris University Colonials. Overall, Clarke had 63 points (27g, 36a) in 95 contests.

Both May and Clarke will participate in the 2009 ECHL All-Star Game on Wednesday in Reading, Pennsylvania.
