Springfield Falcons News Release
January 19, 2009 - For the second straight game, the Springfield Falcons used strong special teams, a balanced scoring attack and a steady performance in goal to skate away with two points. The Falcons swept a home-and-home series with the Lowell Devils on Monday with the Falcons beating the Devils 3-1 at the Paul Tsongas Arena. The Falcons have now won three of their last four games.
MONDAY'S BOX SCORE
The Falcons power play got Springfield going early as Theo Peckham's goal on the man advantage at 17:15 of the first period put Springfield on top 1-0. Two seconds into the game, Springfield's Guillaume Lefebvre and Lowell's Pierre-Luc Leblond dropped the gloves and picked up fighting majors with Lefebvre once again making his physical presence known.
In the second period, the Falcons expanded their lead when Tyler Spurgeon scored his fifth goal of the season at 16:43 giving the Falcons a 2-0 advantage through 40 minutes of play. Late in the middle frame, there were a pair of altercations with Peckham and Olivier Magnan squaring off, followed by Mathieu Roy and Mark Fraser also dropping the gloves to end the second period.
Just 1:16 into the third period, Rob Schremp tallied on the power play giving Springfield a 3-0 lead, but Lowell cut their deficit to 3-1 at 16:27 of the final frame when Jon DiSalvatore scored shorthanded.
