Blues Sign Free Agent Tyson Strachan

St. Louis. (October 9, 2008) - St. Louis Blues President John Davidson announced today the club has signed free agent defenseman Tyson Strachan. In addition, the club recalled forward Chris Porter from the Blues' American Hockey League affiliate, the Peoria Rivermen.
Strachan, 23, skated in two preseason games for the Blues, registering one assist, two penalty minutes and a plus-3 rating. Last season, the 6-1, 212-pound defenseman played in 34 games for the Rivermen, recording three points (one goal, two assists) and 61 penalty minutes. Strachan also appeared in 25 games for the ECHL's Las Vegas Wranglers, recording nine points (two goals, seven assists) and 68 penalty minutes.
The Melfort, Saskatchewan native was originally drafted by Carolina in the fifth round, 137th overall in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
Porter, 24, a native of Toronto, Ontario, played in five preseason games for Blues, recording one assist and two penalty minutes. Last season, the 6-1, 205-pound forward recorded 37 points (12 goals, 25 assists) along with 72 penalty minutes in 80 games played with Peoria.
The Rivermen regular season opens on Friday as the Rivermen head to Iowa. Norm Ulrich will come out of retirement to make his return to the broadcast booth. You can hear all the action on Hippie Radio, 101.1 FM with the pre-game show beginning at 6:30pm.
On Saturday, October 11, the Rivermen face off against the Iowa Chops in their home opener; it's the back end of a home-and-home set between the clubs. It is Heritage Bank Magnet Schedule Night for the first 5,000 fans, and one lucky fan will win a Frigidaire Refrigerator, courtesy of the UFS Downtown Outlet Center, on which to put their magnet. Fans can also enjoy a pre-game tailgate event - "Smoke The Chops!" - just outside the Jefferson Street entrance of Carver Arena from 5:30-7:00 p.m. It is presented by Alwan & Sons Meat Company, Anheuser-Busch, Brewers Distributing, Coca-Cola and Centerplate.
