Michael Mudd promoted to Senior Vice President

WORCESTER - Worcester Sharks President and CEO Michael T. Lehr has announced today that Michael Mudd has been promoted to Senior Vice President in charge of Hockey and Business Administration.

Mudd enters his eighth season in the Sharks organization, his 14th year in professional hockey, and will continue to work alongside Michael Lehr and General Manager Wayne Thomas playing a vital role in all aspects of the Sharks organization. .

Mudd is responsible for development and the management of the hockey operations budget, the organization of team travel, and the administration of training camp. He serves as the Sharks liaison with the American Hockey League office for all hockey-related administrative issues including regular season and playoff scheduling. In addition, he has a hand in evaluating Sharks prospects in Worcester as well as prospects from other American League teams. When the Sharks roster is depleted due to player injuries or player recalls to San Jose, he often works alongside Wayne Thomas in researching or locating talent from other hockey leagues to fill out the Worcester Sharks roster.

Mudd also assists Sharks President and CEO Michael T. Lehr in the overall business operations of the franchise. He has extensive experience in all aspects of the day-to-day operations of a hockey franchise between his years in the IHL and AHL. In addition to his new administrative duties on the business side of the organization, Mudd is the team's senior executive in charge of the 2009 AHL All-Star Classic for the city of Worcester.

A former goaltender, Mudd attended the St. Louis Blues training camp and played professional hockey for two seasons, splitting time between the ECHL and the IHL. A native of Amherst, N.Y., Mudd was a four-year member of the college's hockey and baseball teams at St. Lawrence University, where he earned a bachelors degree in economics. He was named to the All-ICAC First Team as a freshman center fielder. Mudd earned his masters in sports management from Miami University (Ohio), where he was the Assistant Coach of the hockey team from 1992-94.

The Sharks will open their third season in Lowell on Saturday, October 11th at 7:00 p.m. Worcester will then travel to Glens Falls in New York to battle the River Rats on the October 17th at 7:30 p.m., and then return home for the team's home opener against Providence on October 18th at 7:05 p.m. The first 3,000 fans in attendance will receive an All-Star FINZ bobblehead and magnet schedule courtesy of Charter Communications! All fans will also be treated to a pre-game concert by Joshua Tree, a U2 tribute band! Following the game, Joshua Tree will perform at the Boston Billiard Club at Worcester!
