Penguins Introduce On-Ice Video Projection System

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release
WILKES-BARRE, PA - Hockey fans in Northeast Pennsylvania will notice quite a difference in pregame festivities during the 2008-09 American Hockey League season, as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins introduced a new on-ice video projection system prior to their home opener on Wednesday night.
"We try to add something new to our game night entertainment every year, and in honor of our 10th season we have really attempted to give something special back to our fans," said Penguins President Rich Hixon. "As far as we know, we are the only team in the AHL to use this new technology, and we hope we can bring the best fans in the league the same kind of in-game experience they would have at an NHL venue."
The new projection system, produced by Westbury National Show Systems Ltd., is identical to those used by teams in the National Hockey League, including the Pittsburgh Penguins, Anaheim Ducks, Calgary Flames, Montreal Canadiens and Ottawa Senators. The system allows for videos and graphics which can cover up to an 148 foot by 65 foot area, and allows for team-created content to be viewed right on the Wachovia Arena ice. It also opens up a new venue for corporate sponsorship opportunities.
"We feel we are only touching the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the projection system," Hixon continued. "The ability to showcase our game, our players, and our sponsors makes this a dynamic and exciting venture for the team."
