VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC (11-6-5) look to draw level again with USL First Division leaders Puerto Rico Islanders when they visit Interstate 5 rivals Seattle Sounders (8-8-8) on Wednesday evening.

Teitur Thordarson's side face another busy week of league action, with Vancouver's visit to Tukwila, Washington, coming three nights after an eventful goalless draw with Puerto Rico at Swangard. Despite creating numerous chances, the Whitecaps were unable to find a way past Islanders goalkeeper Bill Gaudette. When they did have the ball in the Puerto Rico net, match referee Geoff Gamble called back Omar Jarun's goal after adjudging Gaudette to be in possession of the ball on the goal line. The decision brought protests from striker Eduardo Sebrango, who was then sent off by the referee for dissent, while assistant coach Todd Wawrousek was also ejected from Sunday's game for his comments towards referee Gamble.

The result left Vancouver three points behind the high-flying Islanders in the USL-1 standings, and facing the midweek contest without their leading goalscorer in Sebrango. The Seattle trip is also the second of three games inside a week for the Whitecaps, with another Cascadia Cup rival in Portland Timbers visiting Swangard on Friday night. The Whitecaps will want to avenge their last league meeting with the Sounders back on May 23. Seattle made quick work of their last-ever USL-1 regular season visit to Vancouver, as two goals inside the first seven minutes by Josh Gardner and Sebastien Le Toux gave Seattle a well-deserved 2-0 victory.

Wednesday's game will be the 82nd match-up between the two Pacific Northwest clubs, with their first meeting coming back in 1994. The Sounders lead the overall series of results with a record of 43 wins, 24 defeats, and 14 draws. They also lead the all-time series of results against the Whitecaps in Seattle with 24 wins, eight defeats, and six draws.

Last season, both clubs split their results in Seattle, with Vancouver defeating the Sounders 3-1 at Qwest Field on May 12 before Seattle returned the favour with a 1-0 win on July 12.
