August 19, 2008 - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announce today that INF Gordie Gronkowski has been given his unconditional release from the Angels organization.
Gronkowski played in 56 games for the Kernels, batting .219 with 12 doubles, 2 HR and 18 RBI. He had been on the disabled list since July 4 with a lower back strain.
With today's transactions, the Kernels roster stands at 25 active players with four players on the disabled list.
The Kernels wrap up a four game series with Beloit tonight a 7 pm at Dale and Thomas Popcorn Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium with the gates opening at 6 pm.
