Bees Take Out Brooms and Sweep River Bandits

Davenport, IA (Aug 18, 2008) - The Burlington Bees completed a four-game sweep of Quad Cities with a 5-1 victory Tuesday night at Modern Woodmen Park. David Lough went 4-4 in the game and hit his 14th homerun of the season.

The Bees began the scoring with the first batter of the ballgame. Lough led the top of the first inning off by hitting the second pitched he saw over the wall down the right field line to give the Bees a 1-0 lead. Quad Cities then answered the run in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game.

The Bees scored the final four runs of the ballgame. They got their lead back in the third inning. Joe Billick led the inning off with a double and moved to third on a Lough single. Johnny Giavotella then grounded into a double play but the play did scored Lough and the Bees led 2-1.

The Bees opened up their lead a bit in the fifth inning by scoring two more runs. Lough walked to lead the inning off. Giavotella then singled to move Lough up to second. Mike Moustakas singled to score Lough and move Giavotella to third. After two outs were recorded, Nick Franics singled up the middle to score Giavotella and give the Bees a 4-1 lead. The Bees finished out their scoring in the seventh inning. With two outs, Francis reached third on an error and then scored on a Jamar Walton single.

Luis Cota got the start and the win for the Bees to move to 2-2 this season. In five innings, he allowed one run on four hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Brent Fisher pitched the final four innings to record his first save of the year. He allowed just one hit with two strikeouts and one walk.

The Bees outhit Quad Cities 14-5. Everyone in the lineup had at least one hit. Lough went 4-4 and his homerun was his 14th of the season. Jason Taylor and Rivera each had two hits in the game. The Bees did leave 13 runners on base, which is a new season-high.

The Bees have Wednesday off and will begin an eight game home stand Thursday night at Community Field. The Bees will welcome the Beloit Snappers to Burlington for four games. Alex Caldera is the scheduled starter for the Bees. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00. The game can be heard on 1490 KBUR and online at www.GoBees.com.
