Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, IL - The Kane County Cougars had 11 hits Friday night against the Beloit Snappers but managed just two runs and stranded 15 on the bases, losing, 6-2, in the series finale in front of 9,030 fans at Elfstrom Stadium. The Cougars finished their seven-game home stand with a 4-3 mark but lost the last two against Beloit.
The Cougars never went 1-2-3 offensively but didn't score until the eighth when they were down, 5-0. Each starter reached base at least once, as they stranded two or more five different times.
Starter Jamie Richmond (7-9) gave up single runs in the fourth and fifth innings but lost his bid for a quality start during Beloit's three-run eighth inning. The right-hander left after 7 1/3 frames and gave up five runs -- four earned -- on seven hits, walked one and fanned two in the defeat.
After Justin Frash and Larry Cobb each singled home a run in the bottom of the eighth to cut it to 5-2, Brad Hertzler allowed one run in the ninth to account for the 6-2 final. David Bromberg (7-9) won it for Beloit.
The Cougars (20-26) hit the road for a four-game series at Wisconsin (14-33) that starts at 6:35 CT on Saturday night. Scott Hodsdon (5-8, 3.34) will face Michael Pineda (7-5, 2.29).
