Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
WICHITA, KS - The Lincoln Saltdogs rallied twice Friday night at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium, but couldn't come back a third time, falling 11-10 to the Wichita Wingnuts. The loss snaps the Saltdogs' four-game win streak.
Wichita scored six runs in the first two innings, including four unearned runs in the second frame, to open up an early 6-1 lead. Lincoln tacked on a pair of runs in the fourth, but the Wingnuts scored two more unearned runs in the bottom half of the frame to make it 8-3.
The Saltdogs, though, were far from finished. They loaded the bases with no one out in the top of the sixth, and a wild pitch cut Wichita's lead to 8-4. Shawn McGill then launched a three-run home run off the top of the scoreboard at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium, cutting the deficit to one. One out later, Omar Bramasco singled, stole second, then came around on a pair of wild pitches to tie the game at eight.
The Wingnuts re-took the lead with a run in the bottom of the sixth, but Lincoln still wasn't done. Three straight hits in the eighth inning, including an RBI single from Mario Delgado, tied the game at nine. The Saltdogs left runners on second and third in the frame, however, and Wichita finally took the lead for good in the bottom of the eighth. Dustan Mohr and Brenan Herrera hit back-to-back homers off of brand-new Lincoln reliever Alvaro Orozco (0-1) to take an 11-9 lead.
Lincoln still had one final chance against Wichita closer Byron Embry. Curt Miaso and Dustin Yount led off the ninth with back-to-back hits, putting runners at the corners for pinch-hitter Eduardo Rios. Rios grounded into a double play, however, scoring Miaso but leaving no one on base and two out. McGill, the Dogs' last hope, grounded out to end the game.
The Saltdogs and Wingnuts play game two of their three-game series Saturday night at 7:05. Righty Jarrett Gardner is scheduled to make the start for Lincoln.
The Saltdogs' next homestand of the season begins on July 15th. For team and ticket information, go to www.saltdogs.com.
