Rock Cats Ninth Homestand of 2008
July 9, 2008 - Eastern League (EL1)
New Britain Rock Cats News Release
New Britain, CT - With the calendar now reading "July" - and the Eastern League's 2008 All-Star Game taking center stage next week in Manchester, NH - we are now at that critical point in the baseball season where teams start making moves and positioning themselves for the stretch drive. The Rock Cats - and their aspiring opponents this weekend, the Portland Sea Dogs - are certainly no different. The Eastern League affiliate of the 2007 World Champion Boston Red Sox - and the team that recently spawned the likes of Ellsbury, Buchholz, Pedroia, Papelbon, and Masterson - Portland will be at New Britain Stadium for five very important games this coming weekend. And, since its New Britain - there will be loads of pre-and post-game action in and around the park all weekend to add even more value and fun to the baseball experience that is Rock Cats Baseball.
Details of this weekend's 5-games-in 4-days Homestand at New Britain Stadium:
FRIDAY NIGHT - JULY 11th - 7:05 PM: The weekend action kicks off against visiting Portland with a Friday night contest that starts at 7:05 PM. This will be a very important series as both the Sea Dogs and Rock Cats are jockeying for position and striving to move up in the Northern Division standings. In addition to the intense baseball action on the field, fans will also have a chance to engage in a little competition of their own - thanks to our friends at Stanley Tools - before the game even starts. The Stanley Tools Challenge Competition - a Tape Rule Race; a Nail Driving contest; Saw competition; and a Tire Changing contest - will all take place - with prizes! - at the front gates. Nearby, for fan inspection, will be the Stanley Racing Team's #19 Stanley Tools Dodge Charger - the very one driven by Elliot Sadler! While neither Elliot nor NASCAR buddy Kasey Kahne will be here this time, their ride will be here for you to check out. Moreover, upon entering the park, the first 1,200 adult fans will receive a Stanley Tools /Rock Cats t-shirt! Another unique vehicle for fans to see up-close on Friday night is the special edition 2008 C30 Red Sox Volvo that the carmaker made in limited numbers to commemorate the Bosox' 2007 Championship Season. Our pals at Chase Parkway Volvo own it, and it is here for your personal viewing, thanks to them.
To cool off after all the strenuous outdoors Tools Competition, the Heineken Team will be with us inside on Friday night with samples, a Happy Hour, and specials on Heineken products throughout the Stadium...
Last but hardly least, Friday is also Girl Scout Sleepover Night, when local troops are invited to enjoy the ball game before camping out under the summertime moon and stars on the outfield grass. Cool!
