Burlington Bees News Release
Geneva, IL (Jul 1, 2008) - The Burlington Bees began a four-game series at Kane County Tuesday night and the Bees lost 5-4. With the loss, the Bees ended a four-game winning streak and have still not won a game at Kane County this season.
The Bees got behind early Tuesday night as the Cougars scored one run in the bottom of the first inning. The score remained 1-0 into the fourth inning. With one out in the fourth, Johnny Giavotella and Mike Moustakas each singled before Jason Taylor was hit by a pitch to load the bases. David Lough then hit an RBI single to score Giavotella and keep the bases loaded but the Bees could not score anymore runs in the frame.
Kane County took the lead once again in the bottom of the fourth inning but the Bees answered in the top of the fifth. With one out, Joe Billick hit a double and moved to third on an Adrian Ortiz single. Giavotella then hit a sacrifice fly to score Billick and tie the game 2-2.
The Cougars scored another run in the sixth to take the lead once again and added insurance in the ninth by scoring two runs. The Cougars ended up needing that insurance as the Bees scored two runs in the top of the ninth to get back within one run but the Bees could not complete the comeback.
Danny Gutierrez got the start for the Bees and went five innings allowing two runs, one of which was earned, on five hits with seven strikeouts and no walks. Sam Runion came into the ballgame and pitched 2.1 innings allowing three runs in 2.1 innings of work as he took the loss to move to 2-5 on the season. Zach Peterson did pitch .2 innings allowing a hit with a walk and a strikeout.
Ortiz led the Bees as the plate going 3-5 with two RBI. Giavotella, Moustakas and Billick each had two hits. Those four players combined for all but four of the Bees' hits in the game.
The Bees and Kane County continue the series Wednesday afternoon. Eduardo Paulino is the scheduled starter. First pitch is set for 12:00 noon. The game can be heard online at www.GoBees.com.
