Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, IL - The Kane County Cougars, in conjunction with the Oakland Athletics, have announced that catcher Dusty Napoleon has been transferred to Short-A Vancouver. The team has also received catcher Juan Nunez and right-handed pitcher Jason Glushon - two players who began the season at extended spring training but have since spent a portion of the season at different affiliates in the Oakland system. The latest moves brings the Cougars' roster to 24 active players as the team continues its eight-game road trip in Peoria for a four-game series against the Chiefs beginning this evening.
Glushon (non-drafted FA, 2007) meets the Cougars in Peoria after being transferred from High-A Stockton. The 23-year old has split time this season between a handful of Oakland farm teams including Triple-A Sacramento, Double-A Midland as well as Stockton. Beginning the season in Sacramento, Glushon pitched in three games for the River Cats. Collectively, Glushon has pitched in 19 games (18 of which were non-starts) this season for various affiliates with a 4.23 ERA in 36.2 innings.
Nunez (non-drafted FA, 2006) arrives from Short-A Vancouver, where the catcher was part of the Canadians' Opening Day roster earlier this month. In seven games north of the border, Nunez batted .200 with 4 hits in 20 at-bats. Nunez also logged some time at High-A Stockton earlier this season. At 20 years old, Nunez becomes the youngest member of the Cougars' active roster.
Napoleon, a 19th round pick from the '07 draft, played in 16 games upon being assigned to Kane County on May 20 from extended spring training. Used primarily as a catcher while also spending time at first base, Napoleon batted .205 with 3 RBIs for the Cougars. Napoleon played in 42 games for Vancouver last season, batting .235 with 1 HR and 16 RBIs.
The Cougars (4-4) look to rebound from a disappointing series loss against the Quad Cities River Bandits. Kane County All-Star Jamie Richmond takes the ball tonight at 7 p.m. for the Cougars at O'Brien Field in Peoria and will be opposed by the Chiefs' Robert Hernandez.
