
Kernels hold on to win suspended game, 15-14

June 25, 2008 - After sitting out a 2 hour rain delay, only to see the game suspended, the Cedar Rapids Kernels rallied and then held on for a 15-14 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattler in the completion of Wednesday's suspended game.
Tyler Johnson was 4 for 4 with a HR, two doubles and 3 RBI and Andrew Romine was 3 for 6 with two doubles and 3 RBI. The Kernels set new season highs in runs (15), hits (17) and RBI (14) as a team in the game.
Kernels reliever A.J. Ford (2-0) came on when the game resumed and pitched 2.2 scoreless innings with four strikeouts for the win. Eddie McKiernan struggled a bit in the ninth, but held on to notch his sixth save of the season.
Denny Almante was 4 for 5 with a grand slam, triple and 6 RBI for Wisconsin. Jose Escalona allowed five runs on five hits over an inning to take the loss.
The Kernels and Timber Rattler will complete this eight game home stand with Thursday's scheduled 9-inning game, starting at 7:45 pm.
