Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release

June 26, 2008 - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers salvaged a series split with the Cedar Rapids Kernels by taking the final game, 5-2, in front of 3,175 fans on MS Awareness Night at Dale and Thomas Popcorn Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Kernels starter Trevor Reckling delivered a quality start, allowing a run on four hits, walking two and striking out seven over six innings and left the game with the score tied at 1-1 in the seventh inning.

The Kernels took the lead in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI double by Chris Rosenbaum, scoring Julio Perez. But Wisconsin roughed up reliever Chris Armstrong (0-4) for two runs and then touched Cephas Howard for two more to take a 5-2 lead into the bottom of the eighth.

That was enough for Wisconsin starter Michael Pineda (5-3) as he held the Kernels to two runs on four hits, walked three and struck out seven over eight innings. Robbie Dominguez allowed a hit and struck out one in the ninth for his first save.

Hector Estrella put the Kernels on the scoreboard with a solo home run in the fourth inning, his third homer of the season. Gordie Gronkowski was 1-3 with a double and Julio Perez was 2-4 as the Kernels were held to just five hits in the game.

The Kernels are now on the road for eight days with games at Beloit and Quad Cities. They return to Dale and Thomas Popcorn Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium for a three game series with Kane County on Saturday, July 5 at 7 pm.

Tickets may be purchased on-line at www.kernels.com , or by calling the Kernels Ticket Office at 896-7560. Ticket Office hours are 10 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, and 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday.
