Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
BURLINGTON, IA - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers took an early 4-0 lead, but could not hold off the Burlington Bees Friday night at Community Field. Bee starting pitcher Eduardo Paulino overcame a shaky start to allow the Burlington bats to get back into the game. The Bees wound up with an 8-4 victory, their eight win in the last nine games against the Rattlers.
Wisconsin (3-6 second half, 34-41 overall) took the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning off Paulino. Juan Diaz dropped in a bloop single to center to drive Edilio Colina home from third base. Later in the frame, Alex Liddi sent Diaz home with an RBI single.
In the second Wisconsin made the score 4-0. An RBI single by Colina scored the first run and a throwing error on what should have been the third out of the inning allowed the second run to score.
The Bees (5-4, 35-43) started their comeback in the bottom of the second. Juan Rivera drove in two runs with a single to cut Wisconsin's lead in half
Rattler starter Juan Ramirez looked like he was going to get out of the fourth inning with that two run lead intact. However, Mike Moustakas and Clinton Robinson hit back-to-back solo homers to tie the game 4-4.
Ramirez got into trouble in the fifth inning. A pair of singles and a one out intentional walk to Moustakas loaded the bases. Ramirez got Robinson to foul out for the second out. But, he walked David Lough on four pitches to force in the go ahead run.
While the Bees were scoring runs, Paulino was shutting down the Timber Rattlers. He retired the final 13 batters he faced and struck out five while walking only one.
Burlington tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Joe Billick drove in the first run on a double that started out as a routine flyball to leftcenter. But, the ball was lost in the lights and dropped in safely. Later in the frame, Billick scored from third on a wild pitch.
Lough picked up one more RBI with a two out infield single in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Wisconsin pitchers had control problems on the night. Four pitchers combined to walk eight and throw three wild pitches.
Game two of the series is Saturday night at Community Field. Jake Wild (3-2, 2.70) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Danny Duffy (3-3, 3.67) is set to start for the Bees. Game time is 6:30pm.
