York Revolution News Release

(York, Pa): The York Revolution has announced that infielder Kenny Perez has agreed to terms on a contract with the defending National League Champion Colorado Rockies.

This season, Perez appeared in 34 of the 36 games for which he was active. The Miami, Florida native batted .248 (29-117) in his abbreviated stay in the Atlantic League, with one home run and 15 runs batted in. His hit total included seven doubles, while slugging .321. Perez will be most fondly remembered in York for a two-run, two-out, game winning bottom of the ninth single off the top of the right field wall against the Lancaster Barnstormers on May 18. The dramatic 5-4 win was York's first in the 2008 "War of the Roses" series with their cross-river rivals, helping the Revolution avoid a series sweep at home at Sovereign Bank Stadium. Defensively, the versatile infielder played second, third and shortstop for the Revolution.

A former sixth-round pick of the Boston Red Sox in 2000, Perez spent parts of the previous three seasons at the Triple-A level with the Red Sox, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Chicago White Sox organizations. Coming into this season, the 26-year-old was a career .266 hitter with 31 homeruns and 68 stolen bases over eight professional seasons. At the age of 18, Perez made his professional debut in 2000 with the Red Sox in the Gulf Coast League (Rookie). He would ascend to Triple-A Pawtucket of the International League by 2005, remaining at that level in 2006 with Tucson of the Pacific Coast League after being traded to Arizona. In 2007, Perez returned to the International League with Charlotte after signing with Chicago.

"We're excited for Kenny, he was great for us while he was here," said Revolution Director of Baseball Operations Adam Gladstone. "We're proud of his signing with the Rockies, but regret losing a player of his caliber."

Perez becomes the first member of the 2008 Revolution to sign with a Major League Baseball organization. In 2007 the Revolution led the Atlantic League in that category, sending eight players to Major League affiliates throughout the season.
