Miamisburg teen, Nathan Reed, will celebrate his "Home Run for Life" at Fifth Third Field

DAYTON, OH- Fifth Third Field will host 15-year-old Nathan Reed from Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield's "Home Run for Life" program when the Dayton Dragons take on the Lansing Lugnuts on Wednesday, May 21st at 7 p.m.

The Dayton Dragons and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield have teamed up for their fifth season to showcase the "Home Run for Life" program. This program honors individuals who show tremendous strength and courage in fighting serious illnesses.

In January 2006, Nathan (now a sophomore at Miamisburg High School) began feeling sick. Around that same time, he also noticed a swollen gland on his neck. He made a visit to the emergency room at Children's Medical Center and they broke the news to him. Nathan had Leukemia. Nathan has made tremendous progress and will keep a positive attitude during his remaining 12 months of treatment.

Nathan will be joined at Fifth Third Field by his parents Hope and Gregg, his stepmother Marcella, siblings Justin, Meggan and Ian, and many of the doctors, nurses, and Anthem representatives who played a major part in assisting him over the past few years.

During an inning break, Nathan will take a ceremonial lap around the bases signifying his "Home Run for Life." As he rounds third base, the Dayton Dragons players will be lined up to greet Nathan as he makes his way towards home plate. Upon crossing the plate, Nathan will be greeted by Dragons manager Donnie Scott, who will present him with a certificate making him an honorary Dayton Dragon and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Ohio President Erin Hoeflinger, who will present him with a personalized bat.
