DAVENPORT, IA - Having lost five straight games, the Quad Cities River Bandits borrowed a page out of the Kane County Cougars play book, scored early and late and hung on for the 4-1 victory at Modern Woodmen Park. The win snapped a four game Cougars win streak.

After watching the visitors score twice in the first inning in each of the first two games of the series; it was Quad Cities snatching the 2-0 advantage when Charlie Kingrey doubled home both Jose Garcia and Pete Komza who had each singled.

Kane County finally broke through in the eighth as Corey Brown tripled into the right field corner plating Matt Ray and putting the tying run at third with just one out. But, the Bandits Nick Addition forced Christian Vitters to pop to short and Larry Cobb flied to right to end the threat.

The Bandits salted things away moments later taking advantage of a throwing error by Cobb, a double from Andrew Brown, an RBI single off the bat of Paul Vazquez and a Osvaldo Morales sacrifice fly to make it 4-1.

In the ninth, Todd Johnson and Walter Correa both walked but QC reliever Pete Parise slammed the door shut getting Adam Klien to hit into a game ending double-play and earned his first save.

After allowing the three hits to begin the game, Travis Banwart settled in and gave up just three additional hits while striking out nine over six and two-thirds innings of work. Nevertheless, he absorbed the loss, his third of the year against a pair of wins.

The four game series concludes Sunday afternoon beginning at 1 PM when Chuckie Fick will oppose the Cougars Scott Hodsdon. Kane County will then begin a four game series against Cedar Rapids on Monday at Elfstrom Stadium in Geneva.
