Burlington Bees News Release

Burlington, IA (May 10, 2008) - The Burlington Bees dropped their third game in a row Saturday as they lost 5-4 to Beloit at Community Field. Earlier in the day, Shawn Hayes was activated from the disabled list and he hit a homerun in his first game back.

Matt Mitchell got the start and struggled as he allowed two runs in the first two innings of the game. The Bees answered back in the bottom of the third inning. With Wilson Tucker and David Lough both on base, Mike Moustakas hit a double to left field to score both runners and tie the game.

Mitchell came out to pitch the fifth inning. He allowed three runners to reach without recording an out before he was lifted for Joe Augustine. Two of the runners came around to score in the inning. Mitchell ended up allowing four runs, only one of which was earned, on six hits with four strikeouts and three walks in four innings of work.

Augustine pitched very well for the Bees. His only blemish came in the sixth inning. Joe Benson led off with a triple and eventually scored when Ben Revere reached on a Fielder's Choice. Augustine pitched five innings allowing one run on three hits with four strikeouts and three walks.

The Bees did get within one run in the bottom of the sixth inning. After Moustakas led the inning off with a single, Hayes hit his first homerun of the season to get the Bees within one run. That was as close as they would get.

Todd Balduf had a very nice night behind the plate as he threw out three base stealers in the game. Balduf also had two hits. Moustakas and Lough also had two hits in the contest.

The Bees will try to salvage the final game of the four-game set Sunday afternoon at Community Field. Alex Caldera is the scheduled starter for the Bees. First pitch is set for 2:00. Tickets are available by logging onto www.GoBees.com, visiting Community Field or by calling (319) 754-5705. All mothers will be allowed to attend the game free of charge. The game can be heard on 1490 KBUR and online at www.GoBees.com.
