Hamilton, Robles Join 'Caps; Ramon Garcia Sent to Lakeland

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The West Michigan Whitecaps, in conjunction with the Detroit Tigers, announced today that LHP Ramon Garcia is promoted to Lakeland while RHP Kelvin Cedano is sent to extended spring training. Joining the Whitecaps will be RHP Brandon Hamilton and LHP Mauricio Robles, both from extended spring training.

Hamilton is rated as the Tigers No. 10 prospect, according to Baseball America, after being selected by the Tigers as a supplemental first round pick in 2007. The right-hander from Deatsville, Ala., made his professional debut last year with the Gulf Coast League Tigers and went 1-1 with a 3.10 ERA in seven games and five starts.

Garcia moves up after firing a three-hit complete-game shutout on Thursday in Lansing. He was 4-3 with a 2.81 ERA in seven starts for West Michigan in 2008. Garcia was in his third season with the Whitecaps and was 7-2 with a 1.92 ERA in 2006 before suffering through an injury-filled 2007 where he made just six appearances between West Michigan and Lakeland.

The Whitecaps will also add Robles to their roster after two seasons in the Venezuelan Summer League from 2006-2007. The southpaw from Valencia, Venezuela went a combined 3-7 with 3.28 ERA in 28 games (14 starts) with 103 strikeouts in 85.0 innings in the VSL. Robles signed with the Tigers as a non-drafted free agent on April 1, 2006.

Cedano was 0-0 with a 4.91 ERA in eight games with West Michigan at the time of his movement to extended spring training in Florida.
