Beloit Sky Carp News Release

The Beloit Snappers took care of the Burlington Bees for the second consecutive night, this time by a score of 5-4. Starter Brian Kirwan picked up his third win of the season, going 5.1 innings and allowing four runs off nine hits.

Ben Revere got things rollin' in the top of the first for the Snaps, starting the game off with a triple to right. The Twins' 2007 first round pick was then driven home one batter later on a Chris Cates sacrifice to right. Cates' RBI put Beloit ahead 1-0.

The Snappers put another run on the board in the top of the second inning on an error by Burlington shortstop Mike Moustakas. Moustakas botched a ball hit by Ben Revere allowing Steve Singleton, who earlier singled, to score from third. Singleton's run gave the Snappers a 2-0 lead.

After the Bees tied the game up at 2-2 in the bottom of the third, the Snappers bounced back two innings later with two of their own in the top of the fifth. Runs from Chris Cates and Garrett Olson helped put Beloit back on top 4-2.

The Snappers scored again in the top of the sixth inning on a Ben Revere RBI-fielder's choice. Revere's fielder's choice allowed Joe Benson, who led the inning off with a triple, to score from third. Benson's run put the Snaps ahead by a 5-2 score.

The Bees would battle back to draw to within one run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Burlington scored two runs off of Brian Kirwan to close the gap to 5-4.

That would be all the runs that the Bees would muster, however, as Blair Erickson and Steven Hirchfeld combined to shut the door. The two relievers had a combined seven strikeouts in the final 3.2 innings to help the Snappers win by a final of 5-4.

Steve Singleton went 3 for 4 with a double and a run scored for the Snappers who improved to 17-18 on the season. Burlington dropped to 14-20 overall.
