Falcons Down Steelheads for Fifth Straight Win

Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons won their fifth straight game, and won for the seventh time in their last eight games, with a 6-4 victory over the Idaho Steelheads on Tuesday in front of 3,751 fans at Save Mart Center. Fresno improves to 20 games over .500 on the season with an overall record of 35-15-8.

Matt Quinn continued his strong play, giving Fresno a 1-0 lead 13:09 into the first period. Quinn picked up the rebound of a Joe Van Culin shot in the right-wing circle, and slid a shot past goaltender Kellen Briggs for his 11th goal of the season, and his fourth in the last four games.

Kenny Bernard doubled the lead to 2-0 with his 10th of the year at 18:28. Stuart MacRae forced a steal in the left-wing circle, and moved the puck to Bernard on the right-wing side, where he snapped a shot past Briggs.

The Falcons extended the lead to 3-0 4:10 into the second period as Matt O'Dette's long shot from the blue line beat Briggs through a screen, giving O'Dette his third goal of the year.

Idaho got on the scoreboard at 13:05 as Matt Craig skated down the right-wing side, and stuffed a shot past Jake Moreland on the near post making it a 3-1 game.

But, Fresno answered back just 1:36 later to regain its three-goal lead. Josh Prudden's shot was stopped by Briggs, and the rebound settled on Tyler Kindle's stick on the left-wing side, and he beat the Steelheads' goaltender back to the front of the net for his 10th goal of the year.

John Lammers pulled the Steelheads within two at 3:13 of the third period, snapping a shot past Moreland from the right-wing circle.

Idaho made it a 4-3 game with a shorthanded goal from Kory Scoran at 6:11. Darrell Hay's shot deflected off of a Fresno stick, and settled right on Scoran's stick at the top of the crease, where he slid a shot past Moreland.

Brady Leisenring provided the Falcons with some breathing room, scoring a power-play goal at 14:39 to stretch the lead to 5-3. Leisenring took a pass from Kindle in the left-wing circle, and blasted a one timer past Briggs for his 22nd of the season.

Prudden scored into an empty net at 19:05 giving Fresno a 6-3 advantage, and Idaho's John Snowden scored a power-play goal at 19:36 to set the final.

Fresno is back on action on Wednesday, hosting the Alaska Aces at 7:00 p.m. on Ladies' Night, presented by the U.S. Army. The Falcons welcome the U.S. Army back to Save Mart Center, giving fans another chance to participate in the Army Strong Push-up Challenge. Fans have 60 seconds to do as many push-ups for the chance to take part in the finals on April 1. It's also Ladies Night, with tickets for all ladies just $7. Ten lucky ladies will be selected to act as personal on-ice trainers for 10 Army soldiers during the first intermission.
