Checkers' Holt Named Rbk Hockey Goalie Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Chris Holt of the Charlotte Checkers is the Rbk Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Mar. 3-9.

The South Surrey, British Columbia native was 3-0-0 with a goals-against average of 2.00 and a save percentage of .938 to help Charlotte clinch a berth in the Kelly Cup Playoffs for the fourth straight year.

After stopping 33 of 36 shots in a 4-3 win against Gwinnett on Mar. 4, the 6-foot-3 and 225-pound Holt turned aside 23 shots for a 5-2 win against Dayton on Mar. 6 before making 34 saves in a 3-1 win against Dayton on Mar. 8.

The 22 year old, who is on a season-high three-game winning streak, is 12-8-1 and is tied for second in the ECHL with three shutouts while ranking fourth with a 2.30 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage.

Selected in the sixth round (180th overall) by New York in the 2003 National Hockey League Entry Draft and under NHL contract to Rangers, Holt has also played in the American Hockey League where he is 5-3-0 with a 2.42 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage in nine games with Hartford.

Holt was 24-18-2 with a shutout, a 3.15 goals-against average and a .899 save percentage in 45 regular season games and 2-2 with a 2.96 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage in four Kelly Cup Playoff games for the Checkers in 2006-07. He also played in the AHL and was 2-1-0 with a 2.00 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage in six games for Hartford.

In his rookie season in 2005-06, Holt was 3-2-1 with a goals-against average of 4.06 and a save percentage of .879 in nine games with Hartford and he also made his NHL debut with the Rangers when he came on in relief and stopped two shots in the final 10 minutes of a 5-1 loss at Washington on Dec. 3, 2005.

Runners Up: Craig Kowalski, Gwinnett (3-1-0, 2.51 GAA, .922 save pct.) and Kevin Lalande, Las Vegas (1-0-1, 0.96 GAA, .968 save pct.).

Also Nominated: Mike Brown (Alaska), Gerald Coleman (Augusta), Rejean Beauchemin (Dayton), Jake Moreland (Fresno), Davis Parley (South Carolina), Jason Smith (Trenton) and Michael Mole (Utah).
