Reid to Miss Opening Night after Snake Bite

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays announced today that last season's leading goal-scorer Matt W. Reid will be out of the line-up as the Rays start the 2007-08 season tomorrow night against the Columbia Inferno due to a snake bite.

Reid, 29, was kept overnight in the hospital after being bit by a Copperhead late yesterday afternoon. He is expected to be remain in the hospital for one more night, and will be out of the line-up at least through this weekend's games against Columbia and Augusta, and possibly for the road trip next week.

"It will be tough to start the season without the leadership and experience of Reid on the ice," said Stingrays Head Coach Jared Bednar. "It remains uncertain how long he will be out, but we hope to have him back soon."

The Massena, NY native tallied 60 points (29g, 31a) in just 48 games last season with the Rays. Without Reid in the line-up last season, the Stingrays were 7-13-4.

The Stingrays begin their 15th year of hockey in the Low Country tomorrow night!
