TRENTON, NJ (October 19, 2007) - David Caruso turned away 46-of-48 shots and Stephen Wood scored the decisive power play goal as the Trenton Devils defeated the Reading Royals, 3-2, Friday night at Sovereign Bank Arena.

The 4,077 in attendance saw the Devils raise their record in season openers to 7-2-0 with the help of some clutch goaltending, solid penalty killing and timely scoring.

With the score tied 2-2 in the final period, Trenton was able to get the go-ahead marker on their fifth man-advantage of the contest. Wood was able to whack a loose puck through the legs of Reading goalie Jon Quick at the 5:18 mark to put his team ahead for good.

Joe Rooney opened the scoring at 6:02 of the first period, firing a wrist shot form the far circle that found the top corner of the net. The Devils went up by two goals six minutes later when Jim Henkel redirected Jay Pemberton's point shot top shelf.

Later in the first it was Dany Roussin cutting Trenton's lead in half, knocking a rebound over Caruso's shoulder.

The Royals would eventually knot the score at 7:37 of the second, as Malcolm MacMillan stepped out of the penalty box, accepted a breakaway pass and converted to chance to make it 2-2.

The Devils were able to skate away with the victory despite being outshot 48-20, going 1-for-5 on the power play and 6-for-6 on the penalty kill.
