Everblades bite Seawolves 6-1 in 2007-08 season opener

BILOXI, MS - The Mississippi Sea Wolves dropped their 2007-08 season opener on the road to the Florida Everblades by a score of 6-1 at Germain Arena in Estero, Florida on Saturday evening.

Mathieu Melanson opened the scoring for Florida, taking a pass from Derek Damon and beating Sea Wolves goaltender Morgan Cey along the ice at 15:43 of the first period. Just 2:14 into the second period, Kyle McAllister would make it 2-0 when he batted the rebound of a shot from Jarret Lukin past Cey.

Lance Monych pulled the Sea Wolves within one when he buried a wrist shot from the right wing behind Florida goaltender Justin Peters.

Adam Taylor and Brandon Roach would add power-play goals at 7:39 and 9:24 respectively to give the Everbaldes a 4-1 lead going into the third period. Melanson would add his second of the night on the power play at 3:49 of the third period. Brad Zancanaro capped the scoring when he capitalized on a shorthanded breakaway and beat Morgan Cey at 19:39 of the third period.

Cey made 36 saves on 42 shots, while the Sea Wolves were 0-for-4 on the power play.

The Sea Wolves open the 2007-08 season this Friday and Saturday when they visit the Florida Everblades! Friday's game will be broadcast on 1490-AM WXBD, and Saturday's game can be heard on 1640-AM WTNI. On Saturday, October 27th the Sea Wolves will celebrate their return to home ice and their 10th season in pursuit of the ECHL's Kelly Cup when they face the Reading Royals at 7:05 P.M.
