PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL, a proud affiliate of the San Jose Sharks and the Worcester Sharks, have signed rookie defenseman Chris Murray to a contract for the upcoming 2007-08 ECHL season.

Murray, 22, tallied a career-high nine goals, 22 points, and 84 penalty minutes in 39 games in 2006-07 at the University of New Hampshire to finish sixth overall among Hockey East defensemen in scoring. The Dover, Mass. native was selected to the 2006-07 All-Hockey East Second Team, and was nominated for the 55th Walter Brown Award presented annually to the best American-born college hockey player in New England. Murray signed an amateur try-out agreement with the Peoria Rivermen of the American Hockey League at the conclusion of his senior season at New Hampshire, and made his professional debut with Peoria on March 31 at San Antonio.

Murray attended training camp with San Jose and Worcester.

To make room for Murray on the active roster, the RoadRunners have placed defenseman Nick Toneys on the three-day injured reserve, and have transferred defenseman Jeff Moor to the seven-day injured reserve and forward Steve Covington to the 30-day injured reserve.

The RoadRunners return to US Airways Center at 7:11 p.m. Friday when they host the Utah Grizzlies to commence their third season in the desert.
