LANSING- The Lansing Lugnuts nabbed their first win of the series against the Burlington Bees with a dominating 9-2 win before 7,483 fans at Oldsmobile Park Thursday night.
Lansing's Graham Godfrey found himself in a couple of jams in the first two innings of play, but worked himself out of the first with a flyout by Michale Thompson. He was able to escape the second inning when Jamar Walton singled to left, but Matt Morizio was thrown out at home by Chris Emanuele while trying to score from second base.
Godfrey (6-4) would settle down from that point, tossing 6 2/3 innings and allowing just two runs on eight hits while getting the win.
The Lugnuts were able to spot Godfrey the lead in the second when Kevin Nelson doubled off of the left field wall to score Jonathan Jaspe and make it 1-0.
Then in the third, Lansing was able to load the bases with no men out for Emanuele on two singles and a walk. Emanuele stepped up and drove a triple into the right-center field gap to clear the bases and push the lead to 4-0. Jaspe followed that later in the inning with an RBI single to make it 5-0.
Emanuele would add an RBI single later to complete a four RBI night.
The Lugnuts extended the lead to 6-0 in the fifth wen jaspe singled home another run, and added three more in the seventh to put the game away.
Mario Santiago (1-7) took the loss for the Bees, as he was roughed up for six runs on seven hits over 5 2/3 innings.
Lansing (50-45, 15-11) and Burlington (45-50, 15-11) will conclude the series on Friday night as Kyle Ginley (2-5, 5.36) will make the start for Lansing. He will be opposed by the Bees' Ryan DiPietro (5-5, 4.26). Friday is Christian Family Night with LAFCU Fireworks following the game. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
