Quad Cities Swing Past Lansing

LANSING- Brandon Buckman blasted his Midwest League leading eighth dinger of the year to lift the Swing of the Quad Cities to a 7-4 victory over the Lansing Lugnuts before 1,976 fans at Oldsmobile Park Tuesday night. The loss is the sixth for the Lugnuts in their last seven games.

Lansing jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Matt Lane ripped an RBI double into right-center field to plate Chris Gutierrez and give the Lugnuts a 1-0 lead. Chris Emanuele's single into center field scored Lane to extend the lead to 2-0.

The Swing took the lead in the third inning by scoring five runs, all of which came with two men out. With two men on, Buckman walloped a three-run homer to put the Quad Cities ahead 3-2. The rally continued with consecutive singles by Mark Shorey and Luke Gorsett, who were driven in on a Chris Grossman double that made it a 5-2 game.

The Swing added two more runs in the fifth to take a 7-2 lead. Lansing answered with two runs of its own in the bottom half of the frame to pull within three, highlighted by Brian Pettway double to right-center field.

P.J. Walters (2-1) got the win, throwing four innings of relief and allowing one hit while fanning five.

Zach Dials (2-2) tossed five frames for the Lugnuts in the loss, allowing seven runs on eight hits. Six of the seven runs were earned.

Lansing (16-12) and the Quad Cities (18-14) will continue the series on Wednesday morning beginning at 10:35 a.m. Kyle Ginley (0-2, 6.98) will get the start for the Lugnuts, while Brad Furnish (0-3, 3.47) will take the ball for the Swing. It will be a Grand Slam School Day at the ballpark, as schoolchildren from around the area will attend the game.
