Lugnuts Stay Perfect At Home With 4-3 Win

LANSING- The Lansing Lugnuts completed their second consecutive series sweep and set a franchise record as well in a 4-3 defeat of the Kane County Cougars before 4,005 fans at Oldsmobile Park Friday night. The win marks the ninth straight for Lansing, which is the longest in Lugnuts history.

Lansing used the longball to its advantage on Friday, getting all of its run via the home run. The first came in the third inning when Travis Snider blasted a two-run shot to right field that made it 2-0. It was his first longba

Josh Bell followed suit in the fourth, drilling his second homer of the season to make it 3-0. Brian Pettway stepped up in the sixth and hooked a solo homer inside the left field foul pole to give Lansing a 4-0 lead through six frames.

The Cougars plated two runs in the seventh inning and got another in the eighth when Larry Cobb smacked a solo homer to left field to pull his team within one at 4-3. However, Paul Phillips was brought into the game and retired all four batters he faced to nail down the win and record his second save of the year.

Zach Dials (2-0) pitched well for the Lugnuts, tossing five innings and allowing just two hits while fanning four batters in the win. He has yet to allow a run in two starts at home this season.

Lansing (10-1) will open a four game series on Saturday afternoon with the Beloit Snappers at Oldsmobile Park as they continue a ten game homestand. Lefty Nate Starner (0-1, 2.45) will take the hill for the Lugnuts, while southpaw Jose Lugo (0-0, 6.14) will get the call for the Snappers. First pitch is set for 4:05 p.m.
