Gladiators Fall to Everblades, 7-2

March 6, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL) - Atlanta Gladiators News Release

Brad Schell posted his 100th point of the season but it wasn't enough to help the Gladiators past the Florida Everblades on Tuesday night in a 7-2 loss on the Your Best Rate Financial Home Ice at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Gwinnett falls to 33-18-6 on the season with the loss.

Florida jumped out to a 1-0 lead on the Gladiators just 1:38 into the first period as Brad Zancanaro capitalized on a turnover in the Gwinnett zone. A Gladiators defenseman tried the clear the puck out of the zone but it hit in a skate along the boards deflecting the puck right to Zancanaro who beat Gwinnett netminer Dan Turple from the slot for the unassisted goal.

Dustin Johner pushed the Everblades lead to 2-0 at the 12:11 mark of the first period. Sliding out of the penalty box behind the Gladiators defense, Johner beat Tuple on a breakaway for the marker. Ryan Brindley added the assist on the goal as he sprung Johner on the breakaway.

Jamie Milam's 18th goal of the season drew the Gladiators within a goal of the Everblades at the 5:43 mark of the second period. Brad Schell posted an assist on the marker for his 100th point of the season while Scott Mifsud also collected a helper on the goal for Gwinnett.

Florida regained the two-goal advantage with time winding down in the second period. Adam Taylor posted an assist on the goal at the 18:28 mark of the second period, setting up Bellissimo on the marker.

The Everblades ran away with the contest in the third period as Ernie Hartlieb ripped a slapshot from the point past Turple for the goal just 2:24 into the third period. Jonathan Lehun and Johner collected the assists on the goal for the Everblades.

Bellissimo's second goal of the game pushed the Everblades lead to 5-1 at the 3:41 mark of the third period. Kowalski posted an assist on the goal firing the puck up the ice and springing Bellissimo on a breakaway for the marker for the Everblades.

Gwinnett got a power play goal at the 11:14 mark of the third period on Joel Stepp's 13th marker of the season. Collecting a loose puck along the goal line, Stepp ripped the puck past Kowalski as the netminder was out of position making the initial save to set up the goal. Chad Painchaud and Milam had the assists on the power play goal for Gwinnett.

Zancanaro posted his second goal of the game as he closed the scoring as time expired, beating Turple on a breakaway. Lukin posted an assist as he pushed the puck up the ice to Zancanaro to set up the marker at the 19:59 of the third period.
