Beavers to honor recent PCL Hall of Fame inductee Eddie Basinski Friday at PGE Park

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Beavers will honor recent Pacific Coast League Hall of Fame inductee and longtime Beaver, Eddie Basinski, with a pre-game plaque ceremony before the team takes on the Colorado Springs Sky Sox at PGE Park, Friday, June 2. First pitch is 7:05 p.m., with pre-game festivities slated to begin at 6:45 p.m.
A constant at second base for the Beavers for the better part of a decade, Basinski, once voted the "Most Famous Beaver" by Portland baseball fans, played for the Beavers from 1947-57, appearing in more than 1,400 games with the club. Often referred to by a variety of nicknames, including "The Fiddler," "The Professor," and "Spider," Basinski signed his first professional contract with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1944 and never played below the Triple-A level during his extensive pro career.
In three major league seasons spent with Brooklyn (1944-45) and Pittsburgh (1947), Basinski batted .244 in 203 games.
A member of the Brooklyn Dodgers Hall of Fame and the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame, Basinski joined a celebrated group of PCL notables in this year's hall-of-fame class, including Tommy Lasorda and Dominic "Dom" DiMaggio.
The 2006 inductees were selected by the Pacific Coast League Hall of Fame committee, a blue-ribbon panel composed of Minor League Baseball, PCL and national baseball historians.
ABOUT THE PCL HALL OF FAME
The Pacific Coast League Hall of Fame was created in 1936 by the Helms Athletic Foundation, located in Los Angeles, Calif., which at the time also operated halls of fame for Major League Baseball, golf, college basketball, tennis, swimming, auto racing, professional football, track and field, and college football. In 1952, the PCL Hall of Fame ceased operation, but was brought back in conjunction with the league's centennial celebration in 2003. The PCL Hall of Fame currently consists of 64 members and includes such luminaries as Joe DiMaggio, Ernie Lombardi, Lefty O'Doul, and Steve Bilko. The list of former Beavers in the PCL Hall of Fame includes Harry Krause, Ad Liska, Walt McCredie, Buddy Ryan, Bill Sweeney and Artie Wilson, among others.
