HEADLINES: RedHawks win in 11 ... Hart returns to RedHawks ... Masset starts tonight
TODAY'S OPPONENT: The Albuquerque Isotopes are the Triple-A affiliate of the Florida Marlins. They have been a member of the Pacific Coast League since 2003. They were previously the Calgary Cannons before moving to Albuquerque after the 2002 season. Last year, the Isotopes were 78-66 and finished 2.5 games out of first in the PCL American Conference Southern Division.
TODAY'S GAME: The RedHawks continue their eight-game homestand against Albuquerque. The RedHawks are on a stretch where they will play 24 of 32 games on the road from May 18-June 18. This is their 54th game this season, 26th home game and 11th game against Albuquerque.
LAST GAME: Catcher Nick Trzesniak's RBI single in the 11th inning gave Oklahoma a 3-2 win over Albuquerque . Third baseman Jace Brewer doubled with one out in the 11th and then scored on Trzesniak's hit. It was Oklahoma's third straight one-run win. The RedHawks are now 11-9 in one-run games. Starting pitcher Edinson Volquez went seven innings for Oklahoma and gave up two runs on four hits with three walks and eight strikeouts.
VS. ALBUQUERQUE: The RedHawks are 51-43 all-time against Calgary/Albuquerque and 33-25 against them since the team became the Isotopes in 2003. They are 19-11 at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark against the Isotopes since 2003 and 27-23 against them at home all-time.
PITCHING MATCHUP: Starting pitcher Nick Masset makes his third start of the year for the RedHawks. He took the loss in his last start May 27 at New Orleans. He went two innings and gave up seven runs on eight hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Matt Blank starts for Albuquerque . His first start for Albuquerque in 2006 came May 27 against Round Rock. He went four innings and gave up a run on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
STREAKERS: Catcher Tom Gregorio is on a six-game hit streak dating back to May 19. He is 8-for-22 (.364) with a home runs and four RBIs during the streak, raising his average from .154 to .286 (132 rise). Outfielder Freddy Guzman is on a five-game hit streak dating back to May 27. He is 8-for-21 (.381) during the streak with an RBI.
JASON HART: First baseman Jason Hart has rejoined the RedHawks. Hart last played for Oklahoma in 2003. He missed 2004 while recovering from surgery to remove a brain tumor, spent all of last year with Double-A Frisco and started 2006 with the Rochester Red Wings in the Minnesota organization. The Rangers acquired Hart for a player to be named later. Hart hit .257 with 46 homers and 165 RBIs in 271 games with Oklahoma in 2002 and 2003. He is second on the team's all-time home runs list behind Scott Sheldon who has 57.
WILL SMITH: In his last eight games, outfielder Will Smith is 11-for-32 (.344) with four doubles, a home run and five RBIs. He has raised his average from .258 to .286 (18 rise) in the last eight games. He has four two-hit games in his last eight and was two-for-four with a homer and three RBIs May 23 at Colorado Springs.
LAYNCE NIX: Outfielder Laynce Nix has hits in seven of his last eight games. He is 12-for-33 (.364) with four home runs and 12 RBIs in his last eight games to raise his average from .260 to .291 (31 rise). He was two-for-four with two homers and five RBIs May 25 at Colorado Springs.
HOME SWEET HOME: Going back to July 22 of last season, the RedHawks are 35-15 (.700) at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark including 1-1 in last year's playoffs against Nashville. They are 34-14 (.708) at home in regular season games since July 22.
ROAD WOES: The RedHawks are 8-20 (.286) on the road this year. They were 37-35 (.513) on the road last year. The worst road record in team history was 24-47 (.338) in 2000. It was the second worst road record in the PCL that year.
CLOSE GAMES: Seventeen of Oklahoma's 23 wins this season have come by four runs or less, including 11 one-run wins. Also, 22 of Oklahoma's 30 losses this season have come by four runs or less. They have nine losses by one run, six losses by two runs, four losses by three runs and three losses by four runs.
RADIO UPDATE: The RedHawks' flagship station for most games is KEBC 1340 AM. However, there are a few dates the flagship station will change due to scheduling conflicts. The RedHawks will be on AM 1000 KTOK June 3 and 10. They will be on KFXY 1640 The Score June 4 and 11.
