
Hughes promoted to Trenton

(Trenton, NJ) - The Trenton Thunder, the Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, announced that RHP Philip Hughes has been transferred from Tampa (A) to Trenton and that RHP Paul Thorp has been transferred to the Tampa Yankees.
Hughes, rated as the #1 Yankees prospect by Baseball America entering the 2006 season, posted a 2-3 record with a 1.80 ERA in five starts for Tampa. His last start was against Dunedin on Friday, a game in which he took the loss allowing 2 R in 7.0 IP. In 2006 so far, Hughes has worked 30.0 IP with 2 BB and 30 K.
Hughes was the Yankees' 1st Round Selection (23rd Overall) in the 2004 June Draft out of Foothill H.S. In just his second pro season in 2005, Hughes posted a 9-1 record with a 2.19 ERA for Charleston (A) of the South Atlantic League and Tampa.
Hughes is tentatively scheduled to make his Thunder debut on Thursday against the Reading Phillies.
Thorp was 31st Round selection out of Baylor University in the 2002 June Draft. The Carrollton, TX native appeared in six games for Trenton in 2006 with a 0-1 record and a 5.87 ERA.
Thorp recorded 25 saves for Tampa in 2005, which was 3rd in the Florida State League. He recorded saves in eight consecutive outings (5/11-27) en route to making the Florida State League All-Star Team.

The Thunder conclude a three-game series with New Britain this afternoon at 1:35 PM. Jorge DePaula (0-3, 3.94) starts for Trenton against New Britain's Adam Harben (0-0, 0.64). After today's game, the Reading Phillies come in four a four-game series (Mon.- Thurs.). Game times are 7:05 PM on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. Tuesday is an 11:05 AM start.
