Former Barons Marcel Goc and Christian Ehrhoff to represent Germany at 2006 Olympics

CLEVELAND - The International Hockey Federation announced today that former Barons Marcel Goc and Christian Ehrhoff were named to Germany's men's ice hockey team for the 2006 Winter Olympic Games. The Olympics will be held Feb. 15-23 in Torino, Italy.
Goc has competed with Team Germany at the 2001, 2003, and 2005 World Championships and the 2004 World Cup of Hockey. Goc was just under 15 when he started his international career and played on his first of three successive German teams at the Under-20 World Junior Championships (B-Pool) in 1999. His other international experience includes competing at the Under-18 World Junior Championships in 2000 and the Under-20 World Junior Championship (A-Pool) in 2002.
Goc played in 76 games last season with the Barons, earning 50 points (16-34-50) and 28 penalty minutes. He led the team in power play assists (16) and in assists (19) and points (25) on the road. He also set a franchise record seven assist streak. In his rookie season, the Moers, Germany native netted 37 points (16-21-37) in 78 games in Cleveland and finished the season with the American Hockey League's longest active goals scoring streak (5 games).
The 6-foot-one, 205-pound center currently leads all Sharks rookies with seven goals.
Goc was selected by San Jose in the first round (20th overall) of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
Ehrhoff has appeared with Team Germany in the 2002, 2003, and 2005 World Championships, the 2004 World Cup of Hockey and the 2002 Olympic Games. He began his international career in 1999 as he competed in his first of two Under-18 World Junior Championships. Ehrhoff also played in two Under-20 World Championships in the B-pool for Germany.
The six-foot-two, 195-pound native of Moers, Germany played in 79 games for Cleveland last season, leading all team defenseman with 35 points (12-23-35). He was also named to the AHL All-Star team.
Ehrhoff currently has five assists in 22 games with San Jose this season.
Ehrhoff was originally drafted by San Jose in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft (4th round, 106th overall)
