Zummack, Chiefs Do It Again as Spokane Beats Portland 4-3 in Comeback Fashion

Portland, Oregon -- In a near mirror-match of Tuesday night's contest, the Spokane Chiefs rallied back from a 2-0 first period hole on Wednesday night to pull-off the come-from-behind 4-3 win over the Portland Winterhawks.

It was rookie forward Blake Swetlikoff that opened the scoring for the Chiefs, touching home an Erik Atchison cross-ice pass at 6:17 of the second period. The assist gave Atchison his eight point over his last six games.

It remained a 2-1 Hawks lead until 5:35 of the third when Adam Beckman scored to tie things at 2-2 and push his goal streak to six games; a period over which he's registered 12PTS (7G, 5A). Portland reclaimed the lead at 9:10 and stayed on top as the game clock ticked toward the final minute of play, when a hooking penalty called on Portland's Robbie Fromm-Delorme at 18:55 proved costly. It took just 34 seconds of 6-on-4 action with Spokane goaltender Mason Beaupit pulled for Eli Zummack to find the net, tying the game at 3-3 with just 31 seconds left to play.

After several minutes of back-and-forth overtime action, it was Zummack once again that connected for the game-winner for Spokane, going coast-to-coast as he took it from behind the Spokane net the length of the ice and through traffic to slide it home from the slot and secure the victory. The marker was Zummack's second game-winning goal in as many nights.

Rookie Spokane goaltender Mason Beaupit turned in a brilliant performance, recording a career best 48 saves on 51 Portland shots. The Chiefs ended the night 1-for-3 on the power play and held the Winterhawks 0-for-2. Chiefs defenseman Bobby Russell also added two assists on the night, giving him 6PTS (2G, 4A) over his last six games.
